Services were held Monday, March 26. Burial with military rites by American Legion Post #58 of Valley was in Prospect Hill Cemetery at Elkhorn.
William Leslie (Bill) Swinney was born June 6, 1950 in Wakefield to Leslie and Anna (Libengood) Swinney. Bill grew up in Wayne where he attended school and graduated from Wayne High School in 1968. Following high school, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy in July of 1968. He served during the war in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in December of 1971. Bill married Wai Fong So on Dec. 2, 1972 in Wayne and to this union two children were born - Jack and Christine. The family made their home in Wayne for many years before moving to Omaha in 2017.
Bill was a man of many talents, and held many responsibilities as he worked for Wayne State College for 45 years, but his main job was as the boiler operator. He retired from the college in May of 2017. Bill loved his dogs, fishing, working on cars and doing word searches. He enjoyed listening to rock-n-roll music and his favorite song was "Born To Be Wild." His favorite color was blue and he looked forward to a pork chop dinner, or drink of Crown Royal.
Bill was a loveable, sweet, humble and loyal man who could fix anything. He was so loved by others, that even the kid's friends from college would call him "dad." He loved life at home with his wife, and spending time watching the seven grandchildren. Bill loved everyone and everyone loved and respected him.
Survivors include his wife, Wai Fong, of Omaha; daughter, Christine, of Omaha; son, Jack and Katie of Bennington; seven grandchildren, Alexis, Cean, Kael, Noah, Isaiah, Jace and Kyra and a sister, Beverly Ruwe of Wayne.
