WSC volleyball back in top 25 after 4-0 weekend
After not being in the rankings for the preseason for the first time since 2009, the Wayne State volleyball team is ranked 20th in the first regular-season American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll. While not in the preseason rankins, the Wildcats have been ranked in every regular season national coaches poll dating back to Sept. 28, 2009.
Wayne State opened the season over the weekend going 4-0 at the Embry-Riddle Tournament in Florida, posting 3-0 wins over Westminster (Utah), Lynn (Fla.), Valdosta State (Ga.) and host Embry-Riddle.
Wayne State is one of six Northern Sun Conference schools in this week’s top 25. Other NSIC teams include No. 1 Minnesota Duluth, No. 2 Concordia-St. Paul, No. 7 Northern State, No. 8 Southwest Minnesota State and No. 22 Augustana. Other Central Region teams in the top 25 include No. 5 Nebraska-Kearney, No. 14 Central Missouri, No. 19 Central Oklahoma and No. 21 Missouri Western.
The Wildcats travel to Durant, Okla., this weekend for the Southeastern Oklahoma State Tournament on Friday and Saturday, facing Southern Nazarene and East Central (Okla.) Friday and Southeastern Oklahoma State and No. 19 Central Oklahoma Saturday.
