Wildcats rally for 1-1 tie at Crookston
Wayne State College and Minnesota Crookston played to a 1-1 tie Sunday afternoon in Northern Sun Conference women’s soccer action at Crookston, Minn.
Crookston got on the scoreboard first as Ellie Bretschneider scored on a header off a corner kick from Maggie Gibbons just 4:10 into the contest to put the host Golden Eagles in front.
Wayne State countered with their own goal at the 25:35 mark of the first half as junior Brooke Buzzell scored off a scramble in front of the net to even the score at 1-1.
It was a defensive battle from there as neither team had a shot on goal in the second half, and Wayne State outshot Crookston 4-2 in the overtime
Buzzell had two of Wayne State’s four shots on goal with the other two belonging to Christina Stasi. Rachel Grisham was credited with one save while allowing one goal in the contest.
Wayne State (3-6-5, 2-5-4 NSIC) returns home next weekend, hosting St. Cloud State Saturday and Minnesota Duluth Sunday, with both contests starting at 1 p.m. at the WSC Soccer Pitch.
