Wildcats handle Mount Marty in 92-69 blowout
Five players finished in double figures as Wayne State blew out Mount Marty in a 92-69 men's basketball matchup Monday at Rice Auditorium.
Wayne State opened the game making 8 of their first 12 shots from the field to take a 18-7 lead at the 14:37 mark. The Wildcats were leading 24-14 when Kendall Jacks started a 12-2 run with a monster baseline dunk. Later in the half, Brian Goodwin found Ben Dentlinger for an alley-oop dunk to help the Wildcats close the half with a 55-30 lead.
The Wildcats led by as many as 29 in the second half and cruised to the easy win over the Lancers and improve to 8-4 on the season.
Jordan Cornelius and Trevin Joseph paced five Wildcat players in double figures with 15 points apiece. Tony Bonner contributed 13 points off the bench while Brian Goodwin and Kendall Jacks also hit double digits with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Marcus Mathieu poured in a game-high 26 points to lead Mount Marty College, followed by Zane Schumaker with 16 points.
Luke TerHark led the Wayne State rebounding effort with six followed by Austin Esters with five. Goodwin had four of Wayne State’s 19 assists.
The Wildcats will be at home Friday for a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup against Morningside in Rice Auditorium.
