Wildcats get provisional marks at SDSU meet
Two Wayne State indoor track and field athletes posted NCAA provisional marks over the weekend at the SDSU Div. II Invitational in Brookings, S.D.
In women’s action, Michaela Dendinger recorded an NCAA provisional mark with a season-best throw of 63 feet, 3 1/2 inches to win the weight throw, a mark that now ranks third-best in NCAA Division II. She also won the shot put with a top effort of 50-10.
Other Wildcats that posted strong finishes in the field events included Tia Jones taking fourth in the shot put at 44-6 3/4 with freshmen Kenzie Sullivan and Jadin Wagner both placing in the top 10 with Sullivan eighth (42-1 1/2) and Wagner 10th (40-6 1/4).
Freshman Hanna Lazure tied for ninth in the high jump (4-11), senior Mary Alderson came in 11th in the 600-meter run (1:43.39) and junior Joan Jelimo was 11th in the 800-meter run at 2:25.98. The 1,600-meter relay team of Alderson, Jelimo, Sophie Noecker and McKayla Hanson was 12th with a time of 4:14.54.
In men’s action, Brady Metz won the triple jump with an NCAA provisional mark of 48-1 3/4 and posted a strong third-place effort in the long jump at 22-2 1/4.
Clay Kramper posted a strong sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.32 seconds and Nathan Pearson came in seventh in the 800-meter run at 2:00.13.
In field events, Jayle Hinkle came in ninth in the shot put at 47-2 1/4, Richard Sweeney was 11th in the weight throw (53-7) with Dylan Kaup 13th at 53-0 3/4.
Wayne State will be in action again next weekend, competing Friday and Saturday at the Minnesota State Open in Mankato.
