Wildcats back in regional rankings at No. 7
The Wayne State men’s basketball team is back in the NCAA Div. II Central Region rankings this week, jumping up to No. 7 in the latest rankings released Wednesday.
Through games played Sunday, March 3, Wayne State was able to jump back in the rankings thanks to losses by NSIC foes Augustana, Minnesota Duluth and Minnesota State. Minnesota State stayed in the rankings at No. 8, while Augustana and Duluth fell out of the rankings.
Northern State, which won the NSIC tournament title, moved up a spot to No. 2, behind undefeated Northwest Missouri State out of the MIAA. Washburn of the MIAA fell to No. 3, while St. Cloud State of the NSIC and Missouri Southern of the MIAA round out the top five. Southern Nazarene of the Great American Conference is sixth, followed by Wayne State, Minnesota State and newcomers Southeastern Oklahoma State of the GAC and Sioux Falls from the NSIC in ninth and 10th.
The three conference tournament champions and five highest at-large teams in the regional rankings will advance to the Central Regional tournament, March 16-19. The 64-team field will be announced on Sunday at 9:30 p.m.
