Wildcat runners open season under lights
The Wayne State cross country teams ran under the lights Friday as they opened the season at the Augustana Twilight Meet in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Kim Lowman and Molly McCartney were the top finishers for the Wildcat women’s team as they finished 13th out of 25 teams.
Lowman, a junior from Syracuse, was the top finisher for the Wildcats at 81st overall out of a field of 276 runners with a time of 19:58 on the 5,000-meter course. Sophomore Molly McCartney was close behind in 88th place at 20:06.
Rounding out Wayne State’s top five runners were freshman Allie Rosener in 102nd place at 20:15, senior Joan Jelimo at 127th place in 20:40 and Wayne freshman Andrea Torres at 132nd place (20:51).Other Wildcat finishers were Amanda Mote (215th, 22:32), Hannah Perkins (218th, 22:39), Brianna Crouch (222nd, 22:42), Josephine Peitz (225th, 22:52), Sabrina Sack (235th, 23:19), Marin Jetensky (250th, 24:18) and Payton Birkel (275th, 27:09).
In men’s action, Dylan Kessler was Wayne State’s top finisher as the Wildcats came in 16th out of 29 teams.
Kessler was Wayne State’s top finisher in his first meet as a Wildcat, crossing the line on the 7,000-meter course with a time of 23:40 to place 93rd overall out of a field comprised of 265 runners.
Brock Hegarty came in 130th place overall at 24:24 as the next four Wildcat runners were within 10 seconds of each other. Nathan Pearson was 132nd in 24:27, Bryce Holcomb finished 134th in 24:34 and Isaias Solorio was 135th at 24:34.
Other WSC finishers were Jack Doughty (144th, 24:45), Bailey Peckham (167th, 25:19), Nathan Hiemer (178th, 25:39), Garrett Wells (183rd, 25:49) and Jesus Arellano (186th, 25:55).
Wayne State returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Woody Greeno/UNL Invitational in Lincoln.
