Wildcat netters handle Minot State in four
Jaci Brahmer and Erin Gross combined for 35 kills and a .392 attack percentage to lead 21st ranked Wayne State to a 25-18, 23-25, 25-23 and 25-15 win over Minot State in NSIC volleyball action Saturday afternoon in Minot, N.D.
The first set saw nine ties and two lead changes before the Wildcats pulled away to take the first set. Gross had five kills and one block to pace the Wildcats.
Minot State came back in the second set, as the Beavers used a .326 hitting percentage to tie the match at a set apiece. After a Minot State timeout with the score tied 23-23, the Beavers used a Hayley Swain kill and Wildcat attack error to get the win.
Wayne State bounced back in the third set thanks to seven kills from Brahmer, then held the Beavers to a .000 hitting percentage and forced nine attack errors in the fourth set to close out the match.
Gross had a career-high 20 kills to go with two blocks to lead the Wildcats, followed by Brahmer hitting .448 with 15 kills and three blocks. Alyssa Ballenger contributed nine kills while Tarrin Beller and Katie Stephens added seven kills each.
Setter Megan Gebhardt tied a season-high with 51 assists while libero Haley Kauth finished with 19 digs. Bree Ackermann and freshman Maddie Duffy each had two service aces.
Wayne State (12-6, 6-3 NSIC) will be at home next weekend, hosting No. 13 Northern State Friday at 6 p.m. and MSU Moorhead Saturday in a 1 p.m. contest.
