Wayne travels to Chadron for first round of C-1 playoffs

The Wayne High football team completed a 6-3 season and will compete for a state title as they are the 12th seed for the Class C-1 division of the Nebraska State High School Football Championships that get under way next week.

The Blue Devils will travel to Chadron to take on the Cardinals, who carry an 8-1 record and the No. 5 seed into the 16-team bracket. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. Central Time (2 p.m. Mountain).

The C-1 bracket is as follows, with higher seeds hosting first-round games (all times Central):

No. 1 Norfolk Catholic (9-0) vs. No. 16 Bishop Neumann (5-4)
No. 8 Gothenburg (7-2) vs. No. 9 Aquinas (7-1)
No. 5 Chadron (8-1) vs. No. 12 Wayne (6-3), 3 p.m.
No. 4 Wahoo (8-1) vs. No. 13 Kearney Catholic (7-2), 7 p.m.
