Wayne girls take title at Wisner

The Wayne High varsity girls finished fist in their 10-team division behind three firsts and place in 12 of 14 events to highlight the day at the Wisner Lions Club Invitational at Wisner-Pilger High School.
With about a dozen juniors taking the ACT test, the Wayne girls shuffled some athletes around and fared well, adding to a school record and winning their division by 24 points over North Bend Central.
Kylie Hammer won the 100-meter dash and added an inch to her school record in the triple jump with a third-place effort of 35 feet 1 inch, to highlight the day. Firsts were also earned in the weight throws, with Danica Schaefer taking the shot put and Jenna Trenhaile winning the discus.
On the boys side, the Blue Devils finished eighth overall and had one first-place finish, with Nolan Reynolds taking top honors in the pole vault with a winning jump of 12 feet.
In freshman-sophomore action, the Wayne boys won three individual events and medaled in 12 out of 14 to take top honors in their division. The Wayne freshman-sophomore girls finished third out of 10 teams.
Wayne athletes will be busy this next week with some athletes competing Tuesday at the Wayne Invite and the remainder competing Thursday at the Elkhorn Invitational.
