Wayne girls take third in Mid State tournament
The Wayne High girls claimed consolation honors in the Mid State Conference tournament with a three-set win over Crofton at Thursday at Norfolk Catholic, winning 25-18, 25-20, 25-23.
Lauren Pick led a balanced attack with nine kills, Emily Aromstrong added seven, Ashton Boyer had five, Shania Anderson and Kylie Hammer each had four and Katelyn Grone had three. Allyson Avery had 15 assists and Erin O’Reilly had 10. Boyer had three ace serves and O’Reilly had two.
Defensively, Armstrong had 12 digs, Hammer had 11 and Boyer, Hailey Backer and Korrina Niemann each had 10. Pick had two blocks.
Wayne (17-12) is the top seed for the C1-7 subdistrict that begins Monday at Norfolk High School. They will face either Madison or Winnebago in a semifinal match at 7:30 p.m.
