Wayne girls stumble at Pierce
The Wayne High girls basketball team stumbled in its first game after the holiday break on Friday, dropping a 41-34 decision at Pierce.
Pierce got out to an 8-2 lead early in the game before Ashton Boyer hit the first of three 3-point shots to cut the deficit in half. Pierce rebuilt their lead to seven points before Kylie Hammer hit a jumper to cut the margin to 17-12 after one period.
The game turned into a defensive struggle after that, but Pierce was able to build a 12-point advantage and take a 24-16 lead at intermission.
The Blue Devils couldn’t make a serious threat in the second half, getting no closer than six points on a late trifecta by Boyer, falling to 9-4 on the season.
Boyer led the way with 13 points while Hammer added 12, Gabi Meyer scored six and Frankie Klausen put in three.
