Sullivan, Lahm post 1-2 finish in NSIC men’s heptathlon
Robert Sullivan and Derek Lahm of Wayne State swept the top two spots in the NSIC Indoor Heptathlon held Sunday and Monday at Myers Fieldhouse in Mankato, Minn.
Both athletes hit NCAA provisional qualifying marks with their respective point totals of 5,202 and 5,063, respectively, with Sullivan breaking his own school record of 5,141 points set at last year’s NSIC Heptathlon.
Sullivan won three of the seven events contested in the heptathlon, taking first in the shot put (41-1), high jump (6-8 1/4) and 60-meter hurdles (8.47) while placing second in the long jump (22-6 1/4) and fifth in the 60-meter dash (7.40) and pole vault (13-5 1/4). His point total of 5,202 points currently ranks 10th in NCAA Division II.
Lahm posted first-place finishes in two events, winning the long jump (23-4 3/4) and the 1,000-meter run (2:42.76). He also tied for second in the 60-meter dash (7.18) and was third in the shot put (39-11 1/2). Lahm’s point total of 5,063 currently ranks 14th best in NCAA Division II.
With the first and second place finishes, Wayne State has scored 18 points for the NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships that will take place February 23-24 in Mankato, Minn.
