STATE VOLLEYBALL -- Blue Devils fall to defending champs in straight sets
The Wayne High volleyball team dropped a three-set match to defending Class C-1 champion Wahoo Thursday, losing 25-12, 25-11, 25-16 in the opening round of the Nebraska State Volleyball Championships at Lincoln North Star High School.
The Warriors controlled action in each of the first two sets and made quick work of the Blue Devils to take the 2-0 lead. Wayne battled the Warriors in the third set and used a five-point run to take a 6-3 advantage before the Warriors came back to finish off the three-game sweep.
Lauren Pick led the Wayne attack with six kills while Ashton Boyer added five and Katelyn Grone and Frankie Klausen each had two. Kiara Krusemark had eight assists and Allyson Avery added seven.
Boyer and Pick and Erin O’Reilly each had ace serves and Boyer and Pick both had a block. Pick paced the Wayne defense with six digs, Boyer and Hailey Backer each had five, Krusemark had four and Emily Armstrong had three.
The Blue Devils finish the season 25-10.
