Stasi earns Academic All-Amerian honors

For the first time in the 22-year history of the Wayne State College women’s soccer program, a member of the team has earned Academic All-American honors.

Wildcat senior Christina Stasi was selected to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America Women’s Soccer Team, receiving Third Team honors. The award is voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

Stasi carries a 4.0 grade-point average majoring in sociology and psychology and was voted Google Cloud Academic All-District VII First Team on No. 8 to advance to the All-American ballot.

On the field this season, Stasi collected her third All-NSIC honor in four years with All-NSIC Second Team honors after being named All-NSIC Honorable Mention as a freshman and junior. She led Wayne State in scoring this season with 10 points on four goals and two assists while playing in 17 games with 14 starts.

Stasi tied for the team lead in shots (26) and shots on goal (13) and had one game-winning goal this season.  She recorded one goal with one assist in a 4-3 loss at Northern State and also scored goals against Minnesota Duluth, Minnesota Crookston and Minnesota State. Stasi ended her Wildcat career with 12 goals and four assists and was Wayne State’s leading scorer the last two seasons.
