Softball team swept at home for second time

The Wayne State softball team was swept at home for the second time in as many outings, as Minnesota State beat the Wildcats 5-4 in 10 innings and 9-0 in action Saturday at the Chapman Complex.
The first game was a wild one, as Wayne State scored two in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 4-4. Morgan Hoeg doubled and scored on a Katelyn Wobken single, and Lexie Loos followed with the tying run on a Maverick throwing error.
Wayne State had a chance to win in the 10th inning, but left the bases loaded after Minnesota State scored the winning run on a solo homer in the top of the inning.
Loos went 3-for-6 and scored twice in the losing effort, breaking her own school record for runs in a season after she scored her 54th. She is tied with Amy Sandstrom for the career record, matching the 154 runs Sandstrom scored from 2007-2010. Chandler had two hits, including a homer, and Hoeg doubled. Cassy Miller took the loss.
In the nightcap, Minnesota State pitcher LIbby Bemis threw a no-hitter against the Wildcats. Only one runner reached base for Wayne State, as Sam O’Brien drew a two-out walk in the second inning. Shelby Wobken took the loss.
Wayne State (25-24, 19-9 NSIC) closes out the regular season at home Sunday against Concordia-St. Paul. The doubleheader has been moved up an hour to 11 a.m., due to the forecast for storms in the area later Sunday afternoon.
