Obrecht gem helps Wildcats to 11-1 win
Wayne State freshman Ryan Obrecht fired six innings of one-run ball with eight strikeouts to lead the Wildcats in an 11-1 seven-inning victory over Dakota Wesleyan Wednesday at the Tucson Invitational Baseball Tournament in Arizona. WSC is now 7-4 on the season with DWU dropping to 3-8.
The Wildcats scored solo runs in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead, as Bryce Bisenius scored Alex Logelin with a sacrifice fly in the first and Colin Chick singled home Kyle Thompson in the second.
Dakota Wesleyan scored their lone run of the game in the fourth inning, but the Wildcats used a five-run fourth to take control of the game. Peyton Barnes had an RBI single, CJ Neumann stroked a two-run triple and Bisenius added a two-run single to highlight the big inning.
Wayne State added four more in the fifth, taking advantage of five walks, to end the game on the 10-run rule.
Barnes was 2-for-3 to lead Wayne State’s eight-hit effort. Obrecht allowed six hits and struck out eight before Lawson Zenner worked a spotless seventh in relief.
Wayne State (7-4) will close out play in Arizona on Thursday with an 11 a.m. doubleheader against Mount Marty College.
