Kniesche notches another no-hitter in 2-0 win
The top two teams in Class C did battle in a softball triangular Tuesday in Wahoo, and top-ranked Wayne rode the no-hit pitching of Tori Kniesche to a 2-0 win over second-ranked Bishop Neumann.
Kniesche struck out the lineup to notch half of her 17 strikeouts in the first three innings, and allowed only a fourth-inning walk and a hit batter in the sixth to pick up her third no-hitter of the season.
Wayne got on the board in the second inning when Kniesche reached on an error and was replaced by Nicole Fertig as a courtesy runner. She came home on a Cavalier fielding error to score the first run of the game, and Wayne picked up an insurance run in the sixth when Kendall Dorey doubled and scored on an Annie Kniesche single.
Sidney Biggerstaff had two of Wayne’s six hits in the win, and Josie Thompson also had a hit in the game. Kniesche needed just 105 pitches to notch her third no-hitter of the season.
In the second game, Wayne had no problems with Highway 91 in posting a three-inning, 15-0 win. The Blue Devils scored five in the first, six in the second and four in the third to end the game early, finishing with 12 hits in the game.
Biggerstaff and Tori Kniesche each had two doubles to lead the offense, while Dorey and Allison Claussen also had two hits apiece. Fertig and Aliah Schulz each scored three times as pinch-runners and Annie Kniesche scored a pair of runs.
Tori Kniesche and Dorey combined on the three-inning no-hitter with six strikeouts and two walks between them.
Wayne is back in action Tuesday at Columbus Lakeview, and will be home to face Tekamah-Herman on Thursday, Sept. 6.
