Kniesche earns MaxPreps national honor
Wayne High junior softball pitcher Tori Kniesche was named MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Player of the Week for her outstanding play in the Blue Devils’ opening week of the season.
Kniesche threw three no-hitters, including a perfect game, and allowed just one hit in 22 innings of work to help the Blue Devils to a 4-0 start.
On Thursday, she threw a one-hitter and struck out 15 in a 2-0 win over Blair to open the season. On Saturday, she allowed no hits over 15 innings of work to help Wayne win its own invitational, finishing with a perfect game in a 3-0 win over Arlington.
Kniesche struck out eight of nine batters in a three-inning, 13-0 win over Ponca, then followed that with a no-hitter in a 3-0 win over Twin River before finishing with her perfect game against Arlington. She struck out a combined 36 batters on the day, including 14 each in the wins over Twin River and Arlington to give her 51 strikeouts for the first four games of the year.
