Cross country teams finish season at regionals
The Wayne State College men’s and women’s cross country teams finished 25th and 29th, respectively, in the NCAA Div. II Central Regional Championships at the Kearney Country Club.
The University of Mary won the women’s team title for the second straight year with 61 points. Pittsburg State finished second with 102 points followed by Augustana with 110 points and Minnesota Duluth with 150 points to round out the top four teams.
Molly McCartney placed 135th overall with a time of 24:37 to lead the Wildcats. Kim Lowman placed 152nd at 24:59 and Joan Jelimo finished 158th with a time of 25:11.
Other Wayne State runners included Brianna Crouch (187th, 26:28), Josephine Peitz (203th, 27:33) and Sabrina Sack (211th, 29:51).
Augustana won their sixth straight men’s team title, finishing well ahead of the competition with a score of 43. Missouri Southern took second with a score of 156 followed by Central Missouri (162), Minnesota Duluth (168), Sioux Falls (199) and Minnesota State (208).
Isaias Solorio was the top Wildcat finisher, completing the 10,000-meter course in a time of 34:38 to place 114th out of 181 runners. Jack Doughty followed close behind in 116th with a time of 34:50.
Other Wayne State runners were Bailey Peckham (154th, 36:25), Brock Hegarty (156th, 36:27), Nathan Pearson (166th, 37:22) and Nathan Hiemer (174th, 39:54).
