Blue Devils stay unbeaten with 9-0 win
The Wayne High softball team improved to 11-0 on the season with a 9-0 win over Tekamah-Herman Thursday at the Summer Sports Complex.
Wayne got all they would need in the first inning when Masyn Dorey singled and later came home on a passed ball.
The Blue Devils erupted for five runs in the second inning, thanks to a two-run single by Allison Claussen, an RBI single by Josie Thompson, an Annie Kniesche sacrifice fly and an RBI double by Sidney Biggerstaff. They added three more in the third with an RBI triple by Thompson, an RBI single by Dorey and an RBI double by Kniesche.
That was more than enough for junior fireballer Tori Kniesche, who struck out the side in all five innings and allowed only a leadoff single in the second inning as the only baserunner for the Tigers. She finished with a one-hit shutout, striking out 15.
The Blue Devils will face North Bend Central in the opening round of the Omaha Mercy Invitational on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. They will be home Monday for a triangular with Schuyler and West Point-Beemer starting at 4:30 p.m.
