Blue Devils second in Gold Bracket at Northeast Classic
The Wayne High volleyball team took runner-up honors in the Gold Bracket at the Northeast Nebraska Classic Saturday in Pender.
The Blue Devils opened with a 25-13, 25-6 win over North Bend Central in a rematch of a district final from last year. Lauren Pick had six kills and Ashton Boyer and Emily Armstrong each added five to a balanced attack. Kiara Krusemark had 10 assists and Allyson Avery added nine.
Wayne's only loss was a close one to Archbishop Bergan, losing 25-23, 25-23. Pick had 10 kills and Boyer added nine. Avery had 13 assists and Krusemark had nine, while Frankie Klausen picked up 10 digs.
In the final game of the day, Wayne beat Lutheran High Northeast 27-25, 25-20. Boyer led the attack with seven kills and Katelyn Grone added four. Krusemark had 10 assists and Avery added eight. Krusemark had 11 digs and Hailey Backer added 10.
Wayne, 5-1, plays at Columbus Scotus on Tuesday.
