Blue Devils open volleyball season with four-set home win
The Wayne High volleyball team won a back-and-forth battle with Ponca to open the 2018 campaign, coming away with a 25-16, 16-25 25-12, 25-23 over the Indians at Wayne High School.
The Blue Devils dominated the first set, only to see Ponca turn the tables in the second to tie the match. Wayne again took control in the third set, then came back in the fourth set to finish off the win.
Ashton Boyer and Lauren Pick each had 15 kills for the 1-0 Blue Devils, while Katelyn Grone added seven and Emily Armstrong put down six. Allyson Avery had 23 assists and Kiara Krusemark added 19 assists.
Defensively, Armstrong had 14 digs, Grone and Pick each had 12, Frankie Klausen had 11 and Boyer had 10. Grone was in on three blocks.
Wayne returns to action next Thursday, Aug. 30, for the first day of the Northeast Nebraska Classic at Wisner-Pilger High School.
