Blue Devils make quick work in softball triangular
The Wayne High softball team made quick work of Schuyler and West Point-Beemer with a pair of three-inning wins in a triangular Monday at the Summer Sports Complex.
In the 12-0 win over Schuyler, Wayne scored two in the first and two in the second before erupting for eight in the third to end the game on the mercy rule.
Abby Ankeny got the big inning started with a solo homer to left field, Allison Claussen added an RBI double and Nicole Fertig had a two-run single to highlight the big inning.
Annie Kniesche had three hits and Ankeny added two in the win. Kendall Dorey threw a three-inning no-hitter, striking out six and walking one.
In the second game, Wayne made quick work of the Cadets with a three-inning, 14-0 win.
West Point-Beemer walked the bases loaded in the first and Tori Kniesche unloaded them with a towering blast to center field that started a nine-run first inning. Claussen had an RBI double and Kendall Dorey and Annie Kniesche had RBI singles as 14 Wayne batters came to the plate in the first inning.
Claussen had a two-run double, Annie Kniesche had an RBI double and Hope O’Reilly added an RBI single to highlight a five-run second inning.
The Kniesches and Claussen each had two hits in the win. Tori Kniesche threw a three-inning no-hitter with seven strikeouts and one walk.
Wayne, 16-0, plays a triangular at Pierce with the Bluejays and Boone Central/Newamn Grove on Tuesday. They will be at Columbus for a Thursday matchup with the Discoverers.
