Blue Devils claim North Bend tourney title
The Wayne High volleyball team won a three-set thriller over Aquinas and beat host North Bend Central in straight sets to take the first-place trophy at the North Bend Invitational on Saturday.
In the opener, Wayne battled back after losing the first set to beat Aquinas 15-25, 25-21, 25-22. Lauren Pick led the net attack with 13 kills , Ashton Boyer and Emily Armstrong both had six and Frankie Klausen added four. Allyson Avery had 18 assists and Kiara Krusemark added 10. Erin O'Reilly had five ace serves.
Defensively, Boyer had 13 digs and Armstrong added 12, while Pick had seven and Hailey Backer had five.
In the finals, the Blue Devils beat the Tigers in straight sets, 25-17, 25-17. Pick led a balanceed attack with seven kills, Armstrong added six, Boyer had five and Klausen had four. Avery had 11 assists and Krusemark put up 10. Pick and Boyer both had five digs and Klausen added three.
The 7-2 Blue Devils are back home Tuesday to host Guardian Angels Central Catholic.
