Bentjen earns medal at West Point-Beemer Invite

BEEMER — Wayne High sophomore Natalie Bentjen made quite an improvement as the area golf teams teed off their season Friday at the West Point-Beemer Invitational.

After shooting a 136 at Indian Trails Golf Club last year, Bentjen shaved more than 30 strokes off last year’s score and came away with an 11th place medal, leading the area golfers with a round of 104.

Bentjen was one of three Blue Devils to compete in the first meet of the season. Marrissa Lutt followed with a 125 and Hana Nelsen added a 126.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge brought a full team and finished 10th out of 11 teams in the tournament with a 557. Jadyn Kinkaid led the way with a 117, Glenda Vance had a 126, Hope Swanson shot 153 and Brianna Campbell finished with a 161.

Both teams will be at the Wayne Invitational on Friday, which kicks off at 9 a.m. at the Wayne Country Club.
