AREA WRESTLING ROUNDUP — Wayne wins at Plainview
Here is a summary of Saturday’s area wrestling:
Wayne takes title at Plainview — Wayne High had three champions and 11 medalists on their way to taking the team title at the Plainview Invitational. First-place winners included Reece Jaqua (120), Juan Vergara (132) and Hunter Jorgensen (220). Runner-ups were Cameron Muhs (126), Bertgo Vergara (160) and Garrett Schafer (182). Fourths went to Lance Muhs (113), Victor Kniesche (138), Casey Koenig (170) and Mike Leatherdale (285), while Isaac Cliff was fifth at 145. LCC finished 14th overall and had two medalists, with Ethan Williams taking second at 220 and Trace Naeve finishing sixth at 132. Wayne wrestles in the Mid State Conference tournament next week in Norfolk, while LCC closes out the regular season at the Wakefield Invitational.
Wakefield medals five at Raymond Central — The Wakefield wrestlers posted an 11th place team finish and had five medalists at a very tough Raymond Central Invitational. Cesar Sandoval and Isaac Verzani earned runner-up honors at 120 and 145 pounds, respecitvely. Julio Sanchez was a consolation champion at 220 pounds, while Ben Chase (132) and Clayton Christensen (160) finished sixth. Wakefield hosts their own tournament on Saturday.
Winside gets two champions at Ainsworth — The Winside wrestlers finished seventh out of 10 teams at the Ainsworth Invitational, but came away with a pair of first-place finishes. Koby Ellis won the 113-pound title, while Jonathan Escalante claimed top honors at 220 pounds. The Wildcats close out the regular season Friday at the Cyclone Invitational in Clearwater.
