Shirley A. Bowers
Shirley A. Bowers, 80, of Winside, died Wednesday, Oct. 12 at St. Joseph Rehabilitation and Care Center in Norfolk.
Services were held Saturday, Oct. 15 at the United Methodist Church in Winside. The Rev. Abiba Alice Shomari officiated.
Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery at Winside.
Memorials may be directed to the Bowers family for later designation
Arrangements were with Hasemann Funeral Home in Wayne.
Shirley Ann Bowers was born July 19, 1936 at Carroll to James and Maude (McIntire) Hampton. She graduated from Carroll High School in 1953 and attended Wayne State Teachers College. She was a rural Wayne County school teacher for one year. Shirley married Larry D. Bowers on June 18, 1955 at the United Methodist Church in Carroll. The couple lived in Omaha until 1957, moving to a farm near Truman, Minn. In 1967, the couple returned to farm near Winside. Shirley was a member of the United Methodist Church, Center Circle, and United Methodist Women. She enjoyed the Huskers, NASCAR, traveling, and camping. Shirley truly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her sons, Daniel (Teri) Bowers, Robert (Janice) Bowers, and Richard (June) Bowers, all of Winside; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Bernice Peterson of Lincoln; brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law, Karen Hartmann of Winside, Gary (Barbara) Bowers of Hartington, and Dennis and Lois Bowers of Winside; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry, on Oct. 16, 2012; brothers, James Hampton, Fay Hampton, Robert Hampton, and Thomas Hampton; sisters, Esther Hughes and Beulah Grahek; father and mother-in-law, Bernie and Irene Bowers; and brother-in-law, Owen “Tuffy” Hartmann.
Honorary pallbearers were Shirley and Larry’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers were Justin Bowers, Brandon Bowers, Dewey Bowers, Tucker Bowers, Wes Wares, Ryan Hallowell, Matt Topp, Jon Jaeger, Jerry Helgoth and Curt Topf.
