Ruth Louisa Johnson was born Oct. 3, 1920 in Wayne to Herman and Anna (Lund) Lundberg. She graduated from Wayne High School and Nebraska State Teachers College where she was inducted into Cardinal Key before teaching math in Crofton. Ruth enjoyed lifeguarding and teaching canoeing at a Girl Scout camp. A devoted musician, she played clarinet in the college band and city band as well as violin, piano and organ. The couple first made their home on a farm near Emerson with their dog, Cruce. They farmed together near Wayne for more than 30 years before retiring to an acreage south of Battle Creek in 1979. They returned to Wayne in June of 2017. Ruth was an avid gardener and loved flowers of all kinds.
