Russell C. Sorensen
Russell C. Sorensen, 91, of Thurston, died on Friday, Aug. 17, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cornerstone Assembly of God Church in Pender. Visitation will be held on Monday, Aug. 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Walthill.
Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.

Russell C. Sorensen was born April 14, 1927, the son of Viggo and Beulah (Evans) Sorensen in Hartington. He attended Wakefield High School in Wakefield. Russell entered the United States Army near the end of WWII, where he was stationed in Korea. He married Hazel Potter on Nov. 14, 1952. They eloped to the “scheduled fishing trip” in Luverne, Minn. They lived two miles from Wakefield, later moving to one mile West of Thurston, where he farmed. He was the owner of Sorensen Trucking and Grain Elevator in Wakefield. Russell attended church in Wayne, and later in Pender. He visited several ministries in Costa Rica and Nebraska Assembly of God camps, where he worked as a cook. He enjoyed fishing, cooking and coffee at the “office”.
Survivors include his children, Marjorie (Jerry) Johnson of Wichita, Kan., Steve (Tifani) Sorensen of Aurora, Colo., Teresa Sorensen of Omaha, Philip Sorensen of Omaha, Audrey (Kevin) Kaser of Pender and Cecil (Leslie) Sorensen of Thurston; 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Hazel, and brothers, Donald and Earl.
