Norma Thies, 88, Winside, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Care Center in Norfolk.
Services were held Monday, Aug. 29 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne. The Rev. Jeanne Madsen officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne.
Memorials may be directed to the Thies Family for later designation.
Hasemann Funeral Home in Wayne was in charge of arrangements.
Norma Jean Thies was born Dec. 28, 1927 near Wayne to Adolph and Regina (Kurrelmeyer) Korn. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith. She graduated from Wayne High School and attended Wayne Normal School. Norma married Edward Thies on Dec. 11, 1955 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wayne. The couple farmed near Winside until moving into Winside in 1976. Norma worked at the Winside Stop Inn and did daycare. What she loved most was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne.
Survivors include her four sons, Doug (Dona) Thies of Norfolk, Steve (Julie) Thies of Norfolk, Brad Thies of Kuna, Idaho and Jeff Thies of Winside; five grandchildren, Nathan (Amanda) Thies, Jordan (Julie) Thies, Brianna Thies, Scott Thies, and Kimberly (Jamie) Nemec; brother, Richard (Gail) Korn of Wayne; two sisters, Rosalie Diedrichsen of Randolph and Mildred Weak of Wayne; brother-in-law, Harold Gathje of South Sioux City; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward, in 2013; brothers, Harold (Edna) Korn and Melvin (Margaret) Korn; and sister, Esther Gathje.
Honorary pallbearers were Norma and Ed’s grandchildren, Scott Thies, Julie Thies and Amanda Thies.
Active pallbearers were Nathan Thies, Jordan Thies, Kimberly Nemec, Brianna Thies, Jamie Nemec and Rodney Diedrichsen.
