Juniors sweep Ponca in twinbill
The Wayne Juniors improved to 22-1 on the season with a doubleheader sweep of Ponca on Wednesday.
In the opener, Wayne cranked out 15 hits and overcame six errors to post a 19-7 win. Wayne scored 11 in the first inning and six more in the second to take control of the game. Zane Jackson had four hits – three going for extra bases – and five RBI’s to lead the offense. Ryan Jaixen had three hits and scored four times and Tucker Nichols had two hits, three RBI’s and scored twice.
In the nightcap, Jackson went the distance with seven strikeouts and four hits in a 7-3 win. Wayne scored three in the sixth to put the game out of reach. Tyler Lutt had two hits and scored twice, Brennan O’Reilly had two hits and an RBI while scoring two, and Jackson had two hits and four RBI’s, giving him nine RBI’s for the night.
Wayne plays its final regular-season game at home Friday against Wakefield. They have a bye for the first round of the Ralph Bishop League tournament next week and will play Wednesday at 8 p.m. against either Laurel or Wakefield.
