Wildcats move up a spot in AVCA rankings
The Wayne State volleyball team earned a one spot promotion to No. 18 in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll.
The 8-2 Wildcats have been ranked in the last 102 regular season national coaches’ poll dating back to Sept. 28, 2009. Last week, Wayne State posted a 3-2 road win at Sioux Falls followed by a 3-2 home loss to No. 7 Southwest Minnesota State.
Wayne State is one of five NSIC schools in this week’s top 25, along with No. 2 Northern State, No. 3 Concordia-St. Paul, No. 6 Minnesota Duluth and No. 7 Southwest Minnesota State. Three other teams in the Central Region are ranked, including No. 1 Nebraska-Kearney, No. 9 Central Missouri and No. 15 Central Oklahoma.
The Wildcats play three matches this week, starting Tuesday night at Augustana. Wayne State will then host No. 3 Concordia-St. Paul Friday at 6 p.m. and Minnesota State Saturday in a 1 p.m. contest.
