Wayne State nabs two NSIC indoor track awards
Wayne State College claimed two Athlete of the Week awards in indoor track and field from the Northern Sun Conference this week.
For the second straight week, senior thrower Michaela Dendinger was named the NSIC Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week following her performance in last weekend’s SDSU Div. II Invitational in Brookings, S.D.
Dendinger recorded an NCAA provisional mark in the weight throw with a mark of 63 feet, 3 1/2 inches to take first place and also won the shot put with a heave of 50-10. Her season-best shot put mark of 51-8 1/4 ranks second in NCAA Div. II, while her weight throw mark of 63-3 1/2 is fourth-best in NCAA Div. II. She also leads the NSIC in both events.
Senior Brady Metz was announced the NSIC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week following his performance in last weekend’s event in Brookings.
Metz posted an NCAA provisional mark with a first-place finish in the triple jump Friday with a leap of 48-1 3/4, which is the top mark in the NSIC and 17th best in NCAA Div. II. He also recorded a third-place finish in the long jump at 22-2 1/4, good for the sixth-best mark right now in the NSIC.
Wayne State will compete Friday and Saturday at the Minnesota State Open in Mankato, Minn.
