Harris receives All-America honorable mention
Wayne State senior defensive back Glenn Harris was named to the D2Football.com All-America, receiving honorable mention honors.
The D2Football.com All-America Team highlights the best 100 players to play in 2017. It’s the second postseason honor for Harris, who was voted to the D2CCA All-Super Region 4 Football Team on Dec. 1 with second-team All-Region honors.
Harris was a first-team All-NSIC South Division selection this season after leading Wayne State and the NSIC with eight interceptions, which was tied for second in NCAA Div. II. His eight interceptions also tied a single season school record shared by Steve Besch (1984) and Charlie Wendt (1970). Harris also tied for third in the NSIC this season with 12 passes defended.
Harris made interceptions in six games this season that included a season-best three interceptions at Augustana Sept. 30, tying a single-game school record held by four other players. He also recorded interceptions vs. Mary, Minnesota Duluth, at Winona State, Concordia-St. Paul and Upper Iowa.
Harris had 34 tackles including 27 solo stops this season to go with 2.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and four breakups. He recorded a season best six tackles, all solo, at top-ranked Minnesota State Nov. 4.
Wayne State finished the season at 6-5 overall and fourth in the NSIC South with a 4-3 divisional mark. It was the first winning season for the Wildcats since 2012.
