Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout — DAY 3

Wayne, Hartington CC face off in finals

The Wayne High girls and Hartington Cedar Catholic boys claimed the championship trophies at the 2017 Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout Saturday evening at Wayne State College's Rice Auditorium.

The Blue Devil girls outscored Hartington CC 18-5 in the final period to pull away with a 69-50 win over the Lady Trojans. Kylie Hammer had a game-high 22 points to lead the way.

In boys action, the Trojan boys returned the favor on the host Blue Devils, pulling away with a 57-44 win to take top honors behind Matt Becker's 18 points.

Pender defeated LCC 51-46 for seventh place in the girls game, while the LCC boys battle Norfolk Catholic for fifth place this afternoon.

Girls Bracket
7th Place:
Pender 51, LCC 46 — The Lady Bears made a game of it, cutting a 19-point Pender advantage down to five points late in the game before the Pendragons held on for the win. Ashley Ostrand had a game-high 17 points and Faith Morris added 12 for the Lady Pendragons. Lorna Maxon scored 13 points and Makayla Forsberg added seven for the Lady Bears.

5th Place: West Point-Beemer 66, Gordon-Rushville 26 — The Lady Cadets built an 18-point halftime lead and continued that momentum on their way to a fifth-place finish. Twelve West Point-Beemer players scored, led by Brittney Hinkel’s 12 points, with Katie Pilakowski and Andrea Hoffman adding nine apiece. The Lady Mustangs were led by Jacobie Knight’s nine points, while Callie Shultz and Sierra Garrett each had five.

Hanna Neesen had a game-high 17 points and Jordan Peitz added 12 for the winners. Shelby Kaup paced Arlington with 11 points and Taylor Wakefield added nine.

Kylie Hammer had a game-high 22 points, Frankie Klausen added 18 and Gabi Meyer scored 11 for the Blue Devils. Jada Cattau led Cedar Catholic with 16 points and Abby Hochstein added nine.

7th Place: Gordon-Rushville 58, Pender 29 — Gordon-Rushville used an 18-0 second-quarter run to build a big league and cruise to the easy win. Dylan Schwarting scored a game-high 25 points for the Mustangs while Jared Nelson added 15. Jordan Springer, Tyler Nelson and Sam Mailloux each had six points for the Pendragons.

5th Place: Norfolk Catholic 82, LCC 62 — LCC’s Izac Reifenrath scored 25 consecutive points at one stretch of the second half, but it wasn’t enough as the Knights built a big first-half lead on their way to a fifth-place finish. Ethan Piper scored 26 points, Andrew Fleecs added 22 and Kelby Schaefer put in 14 for the winners. Reifenrath led all scorers with a tournament-high 30 points and Ty Erwin added 13.

Blake Anderson led a balanced attack with 13 points and Garret Meyer added 10 for the Cadets. Jackson Borgmann led Arlington with 13 points and Caleb Caskey added six.
