Wildcats sweep Crookston in road finale
No. 22 Wayne State College used a .369 hitting percentage to cruise to a sweep over Minnesota Crookston Saturday afternoon in Crookston, Minn., winning 25-15, 25-11 and 25-17.
Wayne State hit .464 in the first set to post the easy win. Erin Gross and Jaci Brahmer each had four kills in the set while Megan Gebhardt and Haley Kauth each added a service ace.
The Wildcats never trailed in the second set to take a 2-0 lead. Wayne State raced out to an 11-3 lead early in the set and never looked back. Alyssa Ballenger led Wayne State with four kills while Wayne State posted three blocks.
The third and final set saw five ties and four lead changes before Wayne state came away with the sweep, using a balanced attack with seven different Wildcats recording kills in the set.
Gross led the Wildcats offensively with 10 kills and a .409 attack percentage. Brahmer and Katie Stephens added eight kills each.
Megan Gebhardt recorded 30 assists and six digs. Libero Haley Kauth had 14 digs while senior Bree Ackerman added 10 digs. Four different Wildcats recorded blocks in the match.
The Wildcats (18-10, 11-7 NSIC) will close out the regular season at home next weekend hosting St. Cloud State Friday at 6 p.m. and No. 9 Minnesota Duluth Saturday in a 4 p.m. contest at Rice Auditorium.
