Wahoo ends Wayne's season with 42-8 playoff win
Wayne High's hopes to advance to the semifinals in the C-1 playoffs were dashed by visiting Wahoo on Friday as the Warriors posted a 42-8 win over the Blue Devils to move on to the next round and end Wayne's 6-4 season.
Wahoo got on the board first with an 11-yard run by Dylan Egr, and Wayne was looking to answer later in the period as they started a 19-play drive that took them from their own 20 to the Wahoo 1-yard line. Beau Bowers appeared to have scored, but was denied by the officials on a third-down play as the first quarter came to an end. Wahoo stopped Wayne on the fourth-down try to start the second period to stop a potential tying touchdown.
Wahoo used two big plays later in the period to take control of the game. Egr returned a punt 50 yards for a touchdown with 2:06 to go in the half, then after Wayne went three-and-out, the Warriors made it 21-0 on a 73-yard pass from Cameron Quick to Billy Hancock.
Egr scored two more touchdowns in the second half to make it 35-0, but Wayne avoided the shutout when Bowers found Mason Lee down the far sideline for a 56-yard touchdown pass. Casey Koenig ran in the two-point conversion, and Wahoo added a late score to end the contest.
