Betty J. Hafner

    Betty J. Hafner, 83 of Loup City, formerly of Ord, died Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Rose Lane Nursing Home in Loup City.
    Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, July 24 at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Doug Durre officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery following the service.

    Betty J. Hafner was born Jan. 20, 1934 to John and Eva (Bose) Ulrich at Wayne. She grew up in Wayne and graduated from Wayne High in 1955. She married Dorwin F. Hafner in May of 1955 at Wayne. Together they made their home in Bloomfield until 1956. They moved to Denver, Colo. until 1973 when they moved back to Grand Island where they were in the restaurant business. They later moved to Ord where they lived for 14 years. She worked for the Valley County Nursing Home before retiring and spending the rest of their time in the Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
    As a couple, they enjoyed fishing, and she loved bowling, horseshoes, and was an avid cribbage player. She especially loved spending time with all of her family.
    Survivors include her children and their spouses, Carmen Leibert of Johnson Lake, Lynn and Lyle Schwieger of Loup City and Ed and Judy Hafner of Johnson Lake, and Eugene Hafner; sisters, Donna Morse and Delores Jensen, both of Grand Island; six grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dorwin in 2016; brothers, Arlline, Walter, Benny, Howard, John Jr, Clarence, Donald, Bobby, Murlen and Stanley Ulrich.
    Arrangements are with Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Grand Island.
