Girls long jumpers set record at Scotus Relays

COLUMBUS – The Wayne High track and field teams competed in the Columbus Scotus Relays on Tuesday at Pawnee Park, putting groups together in each event in a relay-scoring format.
The Wayne High girls fared well on Tuesday, finishing fourth out of eight teams and setting a new meet record in the long jump. The team of Kylie Hammer, Tarah Stegemann, Katelyn Grone and Josie Thompson won the event with a combined total of 47 feet, 11 1/2 inches, breaking the old meet record by one inch.
The long jump foursome's win was the only one of the day for Wayne, but the girls did finish in the top five in 12 events, including a pair of runner-up finishes in the discus and the triple jump.
The discus combination of Danica Schaefer, Jenna Trenhaile, Annie Kniesche and Allison Claussen took runner-up honors with a combined distance of 288 feet even, while the triple jump grouping of Hammer, Grone, Thompson and Shania Anderson placed second with a combined distance of 94 feet, 3 3/4 inches.
The Wayne girls posted third-place finishes in the shot put, 6,400-meter relay, 250-meter shuttle and high jump. Fourth-place efforts were seen in the pole vault, 3,200-meter relay and 800-meter relay, while fifths were earned in the 440-meter hurdles and the distance medley.
On the boys' side, the triple jump foursome of Grayson McBride, Will Anderson, Marcus Fertig and Christian Rogers led the way, finishing third with a combined total of 113 feet, 5 1/2 inches.
The pole vault team of Nolan Reynolds, Kaleb Anderson, Jasen Davis and Cameron Muhs placed fourth, while the high jump team of McBride, R.J. Liska, Aaron Reynolds and Collin Clausen tied for fourth.
The 440-meter hurdles team finished fifth, while the shot put and 400-meter relay groupings both finished sixth.
Wayne High will host the Blue Devil Invitational on Tuesday at the Kern Track Stadium. Field events begin at 1 p.m., with running events starting at 3:30 p.m.
