Storms knock down limbs, knock out power in Wayne
After an afternoon of near-100 degree temperatures, the summer heat gave way to severe weather late Friday night in Wayne.
Strong thunderstorms rolled into the area from the northeast, bringing winds with gusts in excess of 60 miles per hour along with heavy rain. The wind knocked down a number of tree limbs in town and knocked one limb into a transformer that caused a fireworks-like explosion in the 500 block of Lincoln Street, knocking out power for some time.
City of Wayne crews were quickly on the scene restoring power in areas of town where the wind had knocked out power and were working to clear debris from the streets left behind by Friday night’s storm.
