Melvin Jenkins, 95, of Carroll, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017 at Providence Medical Center in Wayne.
Services will be held Saturday, Oct. 28 at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Carroll. The Rev. Kyle Nelson will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hasemann Funeral Home in Wayne with family present. Burial with military rites will be in Bethany Cemetery, rural Carroll
Memorials may be directed to the Jenkins family for later designation.

Melvin Albert Jenkins was born Jan. 13, 1922 in Peetz, Colo. to Albert and Sarah Ann (Morris) Jenkins. When the family moved to Carroll, Melvin attended rural school at District #83. He was a hired man for area farmers. He served in the U.S. Cavalry from April 13, 1945 to Dec. 9, 1946, and then was employed as a mechanic for the Allis Chalmers dealership in Wayne. Melvin married Lucile Richards on Feb. 19, 1947. The couple lived in Wayne for a short time and then farmed southwest of Carroll. In January of 1990 they moved into Carroll. Melvin was a member of the Carroll V.F.W., and American Legion and a former member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, rural Carroll.
Survivors include his sons, Gary (Connie) Jenkins of Okoboji, Iowa, Doug (Jana) Jenkins, Greg Jenkins, and Todd (Mary) Jenkins, all of Carroll; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucile in 2008; daughter, Beverly; great-granddaughter, Lauren Jenkins; three brothers, Lewis Jenkins, Roy Jenkins, and Ray Jenkins, and three sisters, Valda Eckmann, Helen Meyers, and Wilva Jenkins.
Honorary pallbearers will be Melvin’s great-grandchildren, Alexander Foster, Garrett Jenkins, Casey Foster and Morgan Jenkins.
Active pallbearers will be Melvin’s grandchildren, Scott Jenkins, Shawn Jenkins, Valerie Foster, Jaci Jenkins, Madison Jenkins, Sandy Foster, Beth Jenkins and Kathy Jenkins.
