Maurice Proett

    Maurice LaMoine (Mort) Proett, 85, died Monday, July 23, 2018 at the Golden Living-Valhaven Rehabilitation in Valley.  
    A celebration of Maurice’s life will be held at 10 a.m., Monday Aug. 6 at Roper and Sons Funeral Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ St in Lincoln. There is no visitation.
    Memorials may be given to the family for a future designation.

    Maurice LaMoine (Mort) Proett was born June 14, 1933 in Glenville, Neb. to Oliver B. and Florence C. (Rehn) Proett. In his younger years, he attended elementary school in Gresham, Neb. Growing up he loved to raise Shetland ponies and continuously won with his special pony named Flash. In 1942 Maurice and his family moved to Wayne. One of his most prized possessions throughout his years was his Oakland Sedan which he would drive endlessly with a smile on his face. He later graduated from Wayne High School in 1952.  Maurice was a bakery owner who enjoyed horse racing, playing keno, Lawrence Welk, and all sports, especially baseball and Nebraska football.
    Family members include his daughters Vickie (Rick) Weaver, Baldwin City, Kan., Jeannie Gardner, Wayzata, Minn., Nancie (Garry) Stoltenberg, Lincoln, Mary (Andy) Kroupa, Omaha, Susie Bowers, Norfolk and Kristin (Dr. Mark) Wilkowske, Edina, Minn.; sons Daniel (Nancy) Proett, Roca, Darren Proett, Fremont and Douglas Proett, Hutchinson, Kan.; mother of his children, Joann Proett, Wayne; 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; brothers Fred (Cheryl) Proett, Sandy, Ore., Oliver, Jr. (Georgeann) Proett, Anaheim, Calif. and Robert (Debbie) Proett, Lincoln; sister Virginia Wilson, Plano, Texas;  numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends;  
    He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Aubrey and brother-in-law, Earl Wilson.
