Leone Isabel Jager’s journey began June 29, 1916, in Nacora, Neb. As her adventures continued, she graduated from Emerson High School in 1933, and was united in marriage to Walter Jager on Dec. 19, 1947 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Emerson. Leone and Walter added four sons along the way to make the journey more interesting; David, Jon, Gregg and Huck. Pam would join Gregg and Chris would join Huck, and seven grandchildren would be added to eliminate dull moments. Add several adopted stray neighborhood kids and Leone always found a reason to cook a meal and share a laugh. Leone always found joy along her journey.  From feeding calves…to a yard full of neighborhood kids…to her travels with Walter…to bull sales…and watching the grandchildren grow.  As her journey continued Leone’s heart would carry on the memory of those who passed before her, including Walter, her parents, and several brothers and sisters. Her four sons, brother and sisters, and countless others whose life she touched now carry her memory along their journey.
Survivors include her sons, David Jager of Wayne, Hugh “Huck” (Chris) Jager of Wayne, Jon Jager of Hazard, and Gregg (Pam) Jager of Ravenna; seven grandchildren, Jolene, Missy, Gavin, Mason, Maddie, Sawyer, and Sylvia; brother, Tim (Kay) Gilfert of Norfolk; sisters, Molly Ann Heikes of Dakota City and Vivian Fitzpatrick of Waterloo, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Bess (Levis) Gilfert; husband, Walter in 2003; and infant brother; brother, Bill; sisters, Violet, Jacqueline, Katherine, and Hazel.
Memorials may be directed to Our Savior Lutheran Church World Hunger Mission.
