Lavon Schrant, 83, of Stanton, died Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the Stanton Health Care Center.
Services will be held Wednesday, May 18 at 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Winside. Visitation with the family present will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in the Pilger Cemetery at Pilger.
Memorials may be directed to the Winside United Methodist Church and Winside Fire/ Rescue.
Lavon Stella Schrant was born July 29, 1932 to Henry and Lela (Miller) Spreen on a farm near Stanton. She attended rural grade school in Stanton County and graduated from Stanton High School in 1950. She attended Wayne State College, receiving her teaching certificate. After graduation, Lavon began teaching in the rural Stanton County area. While teaching, Lavon met and married Allen Schrant June 5, 1952 in Aloys. In 1955, she put teaching aside, and the couple moved to a farm near Winside to operate Roadside Dairy. After 45 years of operating a Grade A Dairy and Processing plant, the couple retired March 31, 2000. Shortly after Allen’s death, Lavon returned to her childhood farm near Pilger where she raised redneck pheasants and quail.
Survivors include her children; Kurt ( Toni ) Schrant of Norfolk, and Lori ( Mike ) Finn of Winside; grandson, Sam Schrant of Wayne; granddaughter, Selena Finn of Lincoln, and Callie Finn of Winside; sister, Thais Fauver of Lincoln; nieces and nephews; and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Allen, in 2000.
