Joseph Bruns

    Joseph Bruns, 64, of Norfolk, died Friday, May 19, 2017 at the Norfolk Veterans Home.
    Services will be held Wednesday, May 24 at 10:30 a.m. at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Pastor Ryan Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites provided by American Legion Post 16, VFW Post 1644, both of Norfolk, Nebraska American Legion Riders and the United States Army Honors Guard.

Joseph Bruns, son of Malvin and Ruth (Wert) Bruns was born June 24, 1952 in Omaha. He attended school in Wayne, and graduated from Wayne High School in 1971. He served in the United States Army from Feb. 10, 1975 to Feb. 7, 1977, where he spent time in Germany. After moving back from Germany he was in active reserves until 2002. He did a tour in Desert Storm and retired as a Sergeant 1st Class. He married Dyleen Nettleton on Aug. 13, 1977 at St. John’s Church in Norfolk. He made his living as a mechanic working at Norfolk Dodge and Gene Steffy's in Fremont before opening his own shop, JB Auto in Norfolk in 1996. He ran JB Auto until retiring in 2006. During his years in retirement he enjoyed many camping trips with his family, watching the races, turning wrenches with his sons and nephews. He also enjoyed fishing, boating, and spending time on the water. Joe was a hardworking selfless man who was always willing to help. His proudest achievement was teaching his children and grand-children the importance of the meaning of family. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. Joe died peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. He was a member of American Legion Post 16 and Our Savior Lutheran Church.
    Survivors include his wife Dyleen Bruns; daughters April (Matt Carr) King, Dawn (Frank) Kruse; sons Neil (Lori) Bruns and Christopher (Malinda) Bruns; grandchildren Chase, Hayden and Mason King; Corth, Ashton and Allison Kruse; Tucker and Pieper Bruns; Kennedy and baby Bruns all of Norfolk, his father, Malvin Bruns; brother, Art Bruns both of Wayne; a sister, Jayne (Ed) Clemens of Oshkosh, and many nieces and nephews.     
    He was proceeded in death by his mother, Ruth Bruns of Wayne and in laws, Hubert and Elinor Nettleton of Norfolk.

    Pallbearers will be Chase King, Hayden King, Mason King, Corth Kruse, Ashton Kruse and Tucker Bruns.
    Honorary casket bearers will be member of the United States Army Reserves.
