Jason Preston

    Jason Preston, 91, of Wayne, died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016 at Careage Campus of Care in Wayne.
    Memorial services will be held Thursday, Aug. 25 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Wayne. The Rev. Kyle Nelson will officiate. Memorial visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time with family present. Burial with military rites will be in Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wayne.
    Memorials may be directed to the Preston family for later designation.
    Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home in Wayne.
    Jason Keith Preston was born Dec. 15, 1924 at Belden to Clarence and Angie (Hall) Preston. He graduated from Belden High School in 1942. A veteran of the Battle of the Bulge, he served in the United States Army from 1943 – 1946. Returning from the war, his marriage to Virginia Lee was postponed due to his contraction of polio. On Sept. 27, 1947 he and Virginia married in the First United Methodist Church in Wayne. They farmed north west of Wayne until 1964. After moving to Wayne, Jay worked for Merchant Oil Company and then began over-the-road truck driving in 1970, logging over two million safe miles, a profession  from which he did not retire until 2006. Jay and Ginny spent  winters in Arizona for 22 years.
    He was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church in Wayne, active in the Wayne Players and the Wayne Community Theatre, a 36 year member of the Masons, a Master Mason, a 50 year member and Past Patron of OES, and a lifetime member of the VFW.  Jay possessed a passion for traveling and passed that sense of adventure onto his children. With young children, the family took numerous vacations around the country. Later in life, he and Ginny visited Alaska and drove the Trans-America highway. They flew to Ireland where Jay kissed the Blarney Stone and they cruised to the Bahamas. Jay and Ginny loved to dance and cut quite the rug on the dance floor. They also enjoyed bowling and playing cards with family and friends.  
    Survivors include his children:  Dale (Sandy) Preston of Wayne, Lynn (Bill) Kramer of Wayne, Verl Preston of New York, Neal (Anita) Preston of Georgia and Dr. Gwen Jensen of Wayne; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia, in 2007; his sister, Beatrice Young, and one great-grandchild, Alex.
    Urn bearers will be Verl Preston and Neal Preston.
