Ida Mae Witt
Ida Mae Witt, 80, of Wakefield, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017 at Providence Medical Center in Wayne.
Services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wakefield. The Rev. William Bertrand will officiate. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Oct. 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne with family present. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Witt family for later designation.
Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.
Ida Mae Witt was born December 21, 1936, in Pender to Johann and Augusta (Havekost) Paulsen. She grew up in Pender and graduated from Pender High School. Ida Mae married Melvin Witt December 2, 1962, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender. The couple began farming near Bancroft. In 1972, they moved to a farm northeast of Wakefield. She was known as the “Roll Lady” for baking homemade rolls for several years at the Fairstore in Wakefield. Ida Mae was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Ida Mae enjoyed decorating cakes, embroidery and quilting.
Survivors include her children, Duane (Kelly) Witt of Wayne, Melodie (David) Longe of Wayne, Karen (Derek) Schreiter of Martell, Connie (Victor) Orona of Pierce; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sisters, Arlene (Raymond) Messerschmidt of Hubbard and Lois Ann (Bill) Farrell of Grinnell, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Anita Paulsen of South Sioux City, Arlene Witt of Omaha, Norma Novak of Randolph and Mylet Witt of Bancroft; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin in 2010; a granddaughter, Dayna Witt; five brothers and three sisters.
Pallbearers will be A.J. Longe, Ron Messerschmidt, Don Messerschmidt, Clifford Novak, David Paulsen and Galen Witt.
