Gloria Leseberg, 84, formerly of Wayne, died Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Brookdale Hospice in Greenville, S.C.
Memorial services will be held Friday, May 6 at 10:30 a.m.at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne. Pastor William Koeber will officiate.
Gloria Aileen Swanson Leseberg was born to Edgar and Alma (Wade Swanson Dec. 15, 1931 on a farm near Carroll. She was baptized and later confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Winside. She grew up on a farm and attended rural school in Wayne County. She attended Carroll High School for two years and graduated from Winside High School as Salutatorian at age 16. Gloria proudly completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree and graduated from Wayne State College in 1986. On Aug. 5, 1951 she married Harry F. Leseberg at Trinity Lutheran Church in Winside. She taught at rural schools in Wayne County for 45 years. Gloria was a lifelong member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne where she taught Sunday School and Bible School classes, was in Evening Circle, and on the Visitation Committee. Gloria also taught GED classes for many years and was an active member of the Wayne County Retired Teachers Association. After her retirement, Gloria was extremely active as a volunteer at The Wayne Senior Center, holding several offices including President and Secretary. Gloria's passion for gardening and her "green thumb" were well-known to all in Wayne. For many years she volunteered her gardening skills and expertise at the Wayne Tower Garden.
Survivors include her children, Sally Leseberg (Michael) Nuss of Taylors, S.C., Tammy Leseberg (Odis) Ross of LaVista, Kory (Lisa) Leseberg of Wayne; brothers and sisters, Geraldine A. Swanson Woods of El Sobrante, Calif., Eddie and Tina Swanson of El Sobrante, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Tyler, Dayne, Jordan and Zachary Ross and Savannah, Ella, Will and Samuel Leseberg; one great-grandchild, Jaxson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; her youngest brother, Duane and her parents.
