Elsie Longnecker, 82, of Winside, died Monday, May 16, 2016 at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Norfolk.
Services will be held Friday, May 20 at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Winside. Visitation with family present will be Thursday, May 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Winside. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery at Winside.
Memorials may be directed to the Winside United Methodist Church Building Fund and Nebraska Veterans Home.
Elsie May Longnecker was born Feb. 25, 1934 at Newcastle to Chester and Anna (Jensen) Wylie. She attended schools at Newcastle, Ponca, and graduated from Winside High School in 1951. Elsie married Russell Rehmus at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Winside on Dec. 14, 1955. They farmed near Winside. To this union four children were born. Russell died in 1961. Elsie married Donald Longnecker on Dec. 2, 1966 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Winside. The couple lived in Winside until moving to Norfolk on June 26, 2008. Elsie was a member of the United Methodist Church in Winside. Elsie’s faith and her family and friends were most important to her. She enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include her daughters, Barbara (Stanley) Stenwall, Janice (Robert) Bowers, and Lisa (Kevin) Cleveland of Winside; daughter-in-law, Jeanine (Douglas) Chaney of Winside; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brother, Darrell (Evelyn) Wylie of Port Orchard, Wash.; sister, Laura (Lowell) Baker of Kingsley, Iowa; sister-in-law, Joanne Wylie of Monroe, Wash.; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald “Cowboy” in 2012; son, Russell; brothers, Donald Wylie and Clarence Wylie.
Pallbearers will be Scott Stenwall, Jeremy Cleveland, Jason Longnecker, Dewey Bowers, Tucker Bowers, Brad Dirkschneider, Quentin Nabity, Ryan Hallowell, Andy Timm and Wesley Wares.
Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.
